(10) Jharkhali

Jharkhali, a renowned village of Sundarbans near Basanti town ship, is approachable through Basanti highway from Kolkata.

Almost every year the Royal Bengal tigers stray into this village crossing the river Herohbhanga from the tiger home at nearby forests of other bank. 

The man tiger conflicts, injury and sickness of tigers have given the idea of setting the ‘Tiger Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre’ at Jharkhali over an area of 22 bighas.

The centre is almost complete where initially 4 tigers will have their shelter with an experimental arrangements of artificial breeding of tiger first time in sundarbans. 

Beside this, there are a ‘Mini Zoo’, a ‘Butterfly Garden’, a ‘Children Garden’ and an watch-tower. There are unique Picnic spots along the rivers to enjoy with family during a day visit to sundarbans by road.

 A short joy trip to the inside of sundarban forests by mini launch may also be available reasonably. 

The Department of Tourism, West Bengal has taken up new schemes and tourism packages.
