On the Western edge of Sundarban lies the three Beach Resort of Frazerganj, Bakkhali & Henry's Island. Located about 140 km from Calcutta (Kolkata) Frazerganj, Bakkhali & Henry's Island are favourite weekend destination for Calcuttans. The history of Frazerganj dates back a century ago when Andrew Frazer the Lieutenant Governor of Bengal (1903 - 1908) fell in love with a small stretch of beach at the Western edge of Sundarban, at the village of Narayanitala. He built a bungalow, complete with coconut grove, which became a talking point of English men in Calcutta. But sadly Frazer's dream of turning Narayanitala into a beach resort was never fulfilled. His bungalow was soon abandoned and has long been swallowed up by the sea. So apart from the Anglican name nothing remains of Frazerganj's colonial past. Bakkhali located 4 km from Frazerganj is an ideal place to spend the night as it has several hotels. But no trip to Bakkhili is complete without a visit to Frazerganj Harbour & Henry's Island. Henry’s Island is the latest addition to the Bakkhali tourist map. West Bengal Fisheries Development Corporation runs two Resort, Mangrove & Sundari, at Henry's Island. The Kiran Beach of Henry's Island is spectacular and provides an interesting mix of beach & mangrove.

Henry Island is an island near Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas, India. It is around 130 km from Kolkata. Henry Island is named after a European who surveyed land in the area in the late 19th Century. Dense mangrove forest parted by numerous canals covered the area then. There is no one to pry other than the red fiddler crabs dotting the shore. Lazing on the sprawling and deserted beach is very enjoyable. The view from the Sundari Tourist Complex tower is excellent and refreshing. Bakkhali is seaside resort in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, India. It is located on one of the many deltaic islands spread.

Across southern Bengal. Most of the islands are part of the Sunderbans, barring a few at the fringes. Some of these are joined together with bridges over narrow creeks. This small island juts out into the vast expanse of the Bay of Bengal.It has a 7 km long beach stretching from Bakkhali to Frazerganj, a twin beach, with gently rolling waves. These are twin towns now forming one continuous locality. Casuarinas trees line the beach. Except on an occasional holiday the beach is not crowded. Even if one part is crowded on a particular day, there will be plenty of barren pockets. A small stretch near Bakkhali has been lighted up. It is a hard beach suitable for cycling or even driving. One can take long walks.
