Rabindranath Tagore Coming at Canning.

Rabindranath Tagore visited Gosaba in 1932.

Rabindranath Tagore came to Gosaba as per invitation of Sir Daniel Mackinnon Hamilton. 

The Rail authority arranged a special coach for great poet up to Canning where he reached at 10.30 a.m on 29.12.1932. From Canning, he was taken to Gosaba by a launch named ‘Dub chick’ owned by Sir Hamilton. 

Near the police station at Gosaba, a wooden bunglo was constructed named, ‘Beacon Bunglo’ where the poet stayed for two days. 

Rabindranath Tagore expend Two night in this Bunglo.

During his days at Gosaba, Rabindranath made tour over the island riding on cycle-rickshaw as he was kin to know Sir Hamilton’s worke for the rural society and people of Gosaba. In the farewell address at Gosaba arranged on his day of return, Rabindranath expressed great pleasure for the exemplary works of Sir Hamilton at Gosaba.
